Marine Solar

Built for
Life on the Water

Marine solar is a completely different discipline from residential installation. Salt air corrodes unprotected connections. Hulls flex and vibrate. Masts and booms create complex shading patterns. Space on deck is limited. And every panel, wire, and battery has to integrate cleanly into a 12V or 24V DC electrical system that's already running navigation electronics, refrigeration, lighting, pumps, and communications gear.

We design every system around your actual electrical loads — not just deck space. We calculate your daily amp-hour consumption, factor in the number of days you need to run without sun, and spec panels, batteries, and charge controllers accordingly. The result is a system that actually works the way you need it to.

Sailboats & Ketches

Flexible panels on biminis, rigid panels on hardtops or deck mounts, lithium battery banks, and full integration with your 12V nav and autopilot systems. Shading from masts and booms carefully accounted for in system design.

White yacht cruising on water

Powerboats & Trawlers

High-capacity lithium banks for extended anchoring without running engines. Shore power integration, generator backup wiring, and Victron monitoring to track every amp from anywhere aboard.

Catamaran on blue water aerial

Catamarans & Live-Aboards

Large panel arrays across wide beam decks, high daily load capacity for full-time living, DC-DC alternator charging, and systems designed for extended offshore passages and remote anchorages.

What We Install

Everything Your
System Needs

A proper marine solar installation isn't just panels on a roof. It's a complete engineered system — every component chosen and sized for your specific vessel, loads, and cruising style.

Power Generation & Storage

Flexible solar panels — ideal for curved biminis and coach roofs
Rigid monocrystalline panels — hardtops, arches, and deck mounts
Lithium LiFePO4 battery banks — Victron Smart batteries with BMS
Victron MPPT SmartSolar charge controllers — 20–30% more harvest than PWM
DC-DC chargers (Victron Orion-Tr) — top up batteries while motoring
Victron MultiPlus inverter/charger — pure sine wave 120V AC aboard

Wiring, Safety & Monitoring

Tinned copper marine-grade wiring throughout — resists salt corrosion
Waterproof junction boxes and sealed cable penetrations
DC breaker panels with proper fusing on every circuit
Victron Cerbo GX — monitor solar, batteries, and loads in real time
VRM remote monitoring — check your system from anywhere in the world
Battery bank integration with existing 12V/24V ship's systems

Why Marine Wiring Is Different

Standard copper wire oxidizes rapidly in salt air — tinned copper is the only correct choice
ABYC and Transport Canada standards apply — not residential electrical code
Voltage drop is critical on long cable runs — we calculate every circuit
Shading from masts can cut output by 40%+ — bypass diodes and MPPT essential
Shore power integration requires proper isolation — galvanic corrosion risk if done wrong

How We Size Your System

Full load audit — fridge, lighting, nav electronics, autopilot, inverter loads
Daily amp-hour calculation based on actual usage hours
Days of autonomy planned — how long can you anchor without sun?
BC solar irradiance data — designed for Pacific Northwest conditions, not California
Charging source stack — panels + alternator + shore power all coordinated

What We Use —
and Why

We're Victron and Renogy authorized dealers. Every component we install is one we've chosen because it's the right tool for the job — not because it's the cheapest option.

LiFePO4 Lithium Batteries

vs AGM — cycle life3,000–5,000 cycles vs 300–500
Usable capacity95–100% vs 50% AGM
Weight saving~50% lighter than equivalent AGM
Charge acceptanceAccepts high current — full charge in 1–2 hrs
SafetyVictron BMS — cell balancing and protection

Victron MPPT Controllers

vs PWM harvest20–30% more energy in real conditions
Shading performanceCritical on sailboats — MPPT recovers faster
BluetoothBuilt-in — monitor from VictronConnect app
Sizes15A to 100A — matched to your panel array

Victron MultiPlus Inverter/Charger

Output typePure sine wave — safe for all sensitive electronics
Shore powerAccepts shore power, charges bank, passes through
Transfer time<20ms — computers stay on through switchover
Sizes500W to 5000W continuous

Our Process

How a Marine
Install Works

No templates, no one-size-fits-all packages. Every marine system starts with a real conversation about your boat and how you use it.

1

Load Audit

We go through every electrical load aboard — nav electronics, fridge, autopilot, lighting, inverter loads. We calculate your daily amp-hour consumption and how many days of autonomy you need without charging.

2

System Design

We spec every component — panel wattage and placement, battery bank size, charge controller, inverter, and monitoring. You receive a full written design with reasoning before anything is ordered.

3

Professional Install

Our Red Seal electricians do the work using tinned copper wiring, waterproof enclosures, and sealed penetrations. Clean cable runs, proper fusing, and full integration with your existing ship's electrical.

4

Handover & Support

We walk you through the system, configure your Victron monitoring, and make sure you know how to read it. We remain available after the job — call us if you have questions on the water.
